MARC-Bib: 7XXe (–No LC caption for 7XX)

Editing

  • Check the 'Source' instruction to be sure that you are looking at the correct source(s) of information on the resource
  • If data on the resource and data as the element in the record are:
    • PoR/PaE–check the Data Entry instructions:
      • data for this element must be Recorded from a vocabulary (Open): make sure the term:
        • is appropriate for the resource
        • is either given exactly from the official list of terms for the element, except for capitalization (check for typos);
        • or conforms to the structure and reasoning of the official list (e.g., singular vs, plural), if it is a locally added term
    • PoR/AaE–check the Core instructions:
      • data for this element is NotCore:
        • if the data has been given as a wrong element, move it to the correct element
        • if the data is missing completely, add the data if you feel it might be useful–remember the principles of differentiation and sufficiency
    • AoR/PaE–check the Source instructions again:
      • since the Source for this element is or includes 'Any', accept the data, but only if it seems applicable
    • AoR/AaE–go to the next element:
      • but be sure to check the resource carefully, if the data for the element is Core, or if the data is important for differentiating the resource from a similar resource
  • Check below, for any useful Notes

Editing Notes:

  • Do not delete Relationship Designators; if they are present, check that they are appropriate; if they are missing, consider adding them (see MARC hints, below)

AACR:

  • It is also ok to add Relationship Designators in AACR records

Hybrid AACR:

MARC:

  • Because the 700, 710, and 711 tags are not explicit enough to indicate specific relationships, it is a good thing to add a Contributor Relationship Designator, of some sort, in these fields; but never add this kind of Relationship Designator to a Name/Title heading (e.g., between the name and the title); if one is present, delete it

Matching: Not applicable
