RIMMF3 has reached a period of stability. We will continue to fix bugs, make minor changes, and keep up-to-date with the RDA Registry as much as possible1).

But its time to look ahead.

We have begun working on RIMMF4.

The immediate objectives of RIMMF4 are:

  • replace the RIMMF text format with an RDF serialization
  • replace the element tables distributed in RIMMF3 with data downloaded from the RDA Registry
  • separate the EI (entity index) from the discovery interface
  • support layers of metadata: metadata about entity records, metadata about statements
  • easy conversion of RIMMF3 data folders to RDF

Some longer term objectives are:

  • support the restructured RDA, the LRM, and new concepts like: the fourfold path, nomens, etc.
  • some form of uri management
  • triplestore cataloging
  • publish an API for sharing user vocabulary terms
  • continued development of metadata support, eg., metadata about metadata

And we will continue to support RIMMF3 features such as:

  • RDA Registry-based language support and automatic updating
  • Direct links to the RDA Toolkit (subscription required)
  • MARC-to-RDA and RDA-to-MARC conversion

Expected ETA:

2018 (immediate objectives)

1) although some of the changes coming down the road will make the latter problematic
