+====== Frequently Asked Questions ======
 +
 +**What is RIMMF?**
 +
 +RIMMF is:
+  * a visualization tool for catalogers, to help them to get used to thinking RDA, instead of AACR/MARC.
+  * a cataloging training tool, to help educators teach RDA thinking
+  * software designed for Windows computers((RIMMF requires Windows 7 or later))((Windows is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and other countries)).
 +
 +**What RIMMF is not**
 +
+RIMMF is not a cataloging tool, because you cannot (yet) export records that can be used in an ILS, without some tweaking.
 +
+Again, the purpose of RIMMF is to help you think about RDA without the constraints of MARC and AACR. In RIMMF we practice making, cloning, importing, and linking RDA entity records to get a solid idea of how much the RDA way of thinking will change the way we do cataloging, hopefully for the better.
 +
 +**Why?**
 +
+Why do we need RIMMF? Because just reading RDA or about RDA does not give us a good understanding of how it will actually work; seeing RDA in action is what will turn the tide in it's favor.
 +
+We have a long way to go before we can replace MARC in our complicated cataloging infrastructure, but we have to start somewhere; in this spirit, we offer RIMMF, an aid to help catalogers to visualize what cataloging //might be like// in an RDA future.
 +
 +**Why "RIMMF"?**
 +
 +The original concept was something like: __R__DA __I__n __M__any __M__etadata __F__ormats. \\
 +
+RIMMF is well on its way to exporting 'records' in MARC, XML, RDF, etc.
 +
+But for now we are mainly concentrating our efforts on an interface to RDA thinking and trying to make sure it is both 'faithful' to the model and 'flexible' enough to be useful to more than one type of user or group.
 +
 +**How do I get RIMMF?**
 +
+Click 'Download' in the sidebar on the left and follow the steps there.
 +
 +**Who created RIMMF?**
 +
+RIMMF was created by Deborah Fritz, after realizing that the main problem with talking RDA was a difficulty visualizing how it might work (some more details on this may be found here). RIMMF was rendered into software by Richard Fritz. Together we are TMQ, Inc. (a.k.a. The MARC of Quality┬«), and we've been doing things like this since 1992. \\

 +
 +**How much does RIMMF cost?**
 +
+RIMMF is free; there are no obligations, no time limit, no annoying forms to fill out, no spam, and no marketing surveys.
 +
 +**Licensing?**

 +
+**I have questions, I need help, etc.**
 +
+If you have questions about using RIMMF, found a problem, have a suggestion, etc., please check here to see whether your issue or question has already been answered. If not, then send an email to <html><span style="font-size:110%;font-weight:bold;">
+<a href='&#109;&#97;&#105;&#108;&#116;&#111;&#58;&#114;&#105;&#109;&#109;&#102;&#64;&#109;&#97;&#114;&#99;&#111;&#102;&#113;&#117;&#97;&#108;&#105;&#116;&#121;&#46;&#99;&#111;&#109;'>&#82;&#73;&#77;&#77;&#70;</a></span></html>; be sure to begin the subject line with 'RIMMF', too.
 +
 +
+**Is source code available for RIMMF?**
 +
+RIMMF is based upon commercial components that we cannot redistribute. See the list of technical specifications for the RIMMF software.
 +
+If you have these products, then theoretically you will be able to compile RIMMF on your machine.
 +
+However, we have one chunk of our own code (from MARC Report) that we cannot share right now--we are working on a solution for this issue.
 +
+<!--If you want to work on the code with us, use the contact form to send us an email.-->
 +
 +
 +**Is there a 'Mac/OS X' or *NIX version?**
 +
 +Sort of.
 +
+First, we admit that we do not have the time and the skills to develop a purely native Mac or *NIX version(("We" consists of about .5 FTE of a Windows programmer)). If we had the resources (ie. programmers with time and expertise), we would instead pursue making RIMMF available as a web app.
 +
+We have had reports that RIMMF runs well on linux using WINE, without modification((ie. simply downloaded from the normal Windows link on our website)). We haven't tried this ourselves, but we are planning to install linux on something someday.
 +
+We are also working on a compilation of RIMMF3 that runs on OS X __without windows__. This compilation is again based on the WINE emulator, but in a few cases we have modified the code to improve the functionality in WINE. We are looking for Mac users willing to test this for us. If you are interested in helping, please review the notes on the OS X/WINE project here.)
 +
+RIMMF3 also appears to run using Mac and linux software called CrossOver (free trial available at www.codeweavers.com). The CrossOver software costs about $40. Please note that the version of RIMMF available on the codeweavers website is not current--contact us for the steps to install a current version of RIMMF using the CrossOver app.
 +
+Finally, RIMMF runs exactly as designed on any hardware with Windows installed as a virtual machine, whether via boot camp, or Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion, etc. This is in fact how Deborah use RIMMF in an X-Athon.
