 +TYPES OF GLOBAL CHANGE
 +
+The type of change that you select on this page will determine the type of data entry form that appears on the following page.
 +
+Each option on this page has a hot key associated with it, so instead of using your mouse, you can also use the hot key to select a global change type. For example, pressing <Alt><D> will select the 'Delete Tags' option.
 +
+Keep in mind that, if you specified any patterns on the preceding page, the type of change that you select will be applied only to the records that match these patterns, and not to all of the records in the file.
 +
+Specific help and examples for each type of global change will be available on the next page.
 +
 +Delete a Tag
 +
+Select this option when you want to completely delete a tag and all of its contents. You can enter a single tag, or a list of tags separated from one another by blank spaces.
 +
 +Delete a Subfield
 +
+Select this option when you want to completely delete a subfield in a tag.
 +
 +Add a Tag
 +
+Select this option when you want to add a new tag to a record.
 +
 +Add a Subfield
 +
+Select this option when you want to add a new subfield to an existing tag. If the tag to which you are adding the subfield does not exist in a record, you will have the option to create it.
 +
 +Copy a Tag
 +
+Select this option when you want to copy the complete contents of one tag to another.
 +
 +Copy/Move a Subfield
 +
+Select this option when you want to copy the complete contents of a subfield from one tag to another. You can 'move' the subfield by opting to delete the subfield being copied (after the copy has taken place).
 +
 +Change a Tag
 +
+Select this option when you want to change a tag number.
 +
 +Change a Tag Occurrence
 +
+Select this option when you want to change a tag's occurrence number in the record.
 +
 +Change an Indicator
 +
+Select this option when you want to change the value of an indicator. You can change indicator 1, indicator 2, or both indicators at the same time.
 +
 +Change a Subfield
 +
+Select this option when you want to change the subfield code in a tag to a different value.
 +
 +Change Subfield Order
 +
+Select this option when you want to change the order of subfields in a tag. You can opt either to sort the subfields alphabetically, or enter a list of subfields in the order that you want them to appear.
 +
 +Change Data
 +
+Select this option when you want to change any of the data within a tag. You can also use 'Change Data' to add data to, and remove data from, an existing tag.
 +
+In general, if you are adding or deleting a complete subfield, use the corresponding 'Add Subfield' or 'Delete subfield' type. If you are adding or deleting data within a subfield, use the 'Change Data' type.
 +
 +Add Sequential Number
 +
+Select this option if you want to add a tag that contains an auto-incrementing number (i.e. the number that increases by one with each record processed). This could be useful if you want to assign unique control numbers to every record in a file.
 +
 +Normalize Number
 +
+Select this option to normalize the most common match keys in a record. The match keys currently supported are 001='ocm', 010$a, 010$z, 020$a, 022$a, and 035$a='(OCoLC)'. Normalized match keys are essential for databases, as they help to ensure that new records will correctly match existing records when they are loaded, instead of creating duplicates.
 +
 +Same record duplicate fields
 +
+Select this option to identify, and optionally delete, duplicate data within the same record.
 +
 +Split long fields
 +
+Select this option to break long fields into smaller fields. You can set the length of the new fields.
