Checking records for subject headings

By default, the 'Check for subject headings' option (on the Cataloging Checks page), if enabled, causes the program to display a warning message whenever a non-fiction record is found that does not have a subject heading (as defined in your subject headings table).

This option has always included a sub-option called 'Include Fiction?'.

In recent versions (since 232) of the program, when the 'Include fiction' checkbox was selected, the program would generate the 'Subjects missing?' message whenever a print record lacked subjects and the 008/33 was coded '1' (Fiction) or 'f' (Novels).

However, in earlier versions (before 232) of the program, this behavior was different: when the 'Include fiction' checkbox was selected, the program would generate the 'Subjects missing?' message whenever a print record lacked subjects and the 008/33 was not coded '0' (Non-Fiction).

Both solutions are imperfect. For instance, in the current version, records for poetry (008/33 = 'p') trigger the 'Missing subjects?' warning–even when the 'Include Fiction?' option is not selected–because the program considered the item to not be fiction.

In version 236 of MARC Report, we have added much more granularity to the 'Include Fiction' option; the 'Include Fiction?' checkbox has been replaced by the following:

You may now decide, for each of the above forms, whether the 'Subjects missing?' warning message should be generated (by selecting the corresponding checkbox) or not.

By default, only the first option, 'Fiction', will be selected.
