Converting MARC-8 records to unicode with MARC Report

In this tutorial, the name of the MARC file being converted is 'russian-bibs.mrc'

Start MARC Report and select the MARC file that you want to convert to unicode (UTF-8).

1. Under the Utilities menu, select MARC-to-XML. You should see a screen like the following:

Now click on the 'XML' button:

By default, the program generates an xml filename which is simply the name of the MARC file followed by the '.xml' extension.
In our example, this default filename will be1) :

russian-bibs.mrc.xml

Click Save; the program will copy your filename into the form, and it should look now like this:

Now click 'Start Conversion'. When the conversion completes, a message will pop-up telling you how many records were converted to XML. Click Ok, then Quit.

2. Under the Utilities menu, select XML-to-MARC. You should see a screen like the following:

Now click the XML button.

You can change that filename here to whatever you would like. Just be careful to preserve the .xml extension on the end. Also, if you change the folder, remember what you change it to, because you will need to know that in Step #2.
