WORKSHOP SPEAKERS
Deborah Fritz
has been teaching TMQ workshops since 1992. She has cataloged in libraries,
managed retrospective conversion projects for a large vendor, had her own
contract cataloging business, and worked for a regional consortium in
Florida--first as a training coordinator, followed by an 18-month stint as
executive director. She is the author of "Cataloging with AACR2R and
MARC21" (now in its second edition), and "MARC21 for Everyone",
both published by ALA Editions, and has been teaching cataloging workshops
since 1988. She owns her own cataloging training, consulting and software
company, The MARC of Quality, in partnership with her husband, Richard Fritz.
Lynn Fields has
been teaching TMQ workshops since 2001. She is currently a Catalog and Metadata
Librarian/Assistant Professor at the Lovejoy Library at the Southern Illinois
University Edwardsville, where she is responsible for cataloging serials,
electronic resources, and federal and state documents. From 2006-2008, she
developed and taught courses for TMQ on a full-time basis, and before that,
taught part-time for us--while she was the Database Consultant at the Lewis
& Clark Library System in Illinois, where she was responsible for original
cataloging, authority control, the maintenance of the bibliographic database,
and developing and providing bibliographic services training and support. She
is an SCCTP trainer and has taught "Principles of Cataloging &
Classification" for the University of Missouri, School of Information
Science & Learning Technologies.
Karen Anspach
has been teaching TMQ workshops since 2003. She is a consultant to library
systems, system vendors, and other information techology companies. She has an
MLS from Columbia University and began her library career working in technical
services and reference services in a public library setting for 7 years. She
then moved to the library automation systems industry where she worked as a
systems analyst and System Design Manager for 15 years, focusing on the design
and development of technical service modules and searching tools for catalogs,
writing technical documentation, and creating and presenting training materials
for clients and in-house staff. Karen has been actively involved in information
industry standards development and currently works as an independent consultant
to libraries and other institutions in the information industry, including
MuseGlobal, Inc., a leading federated search technology provider.
Kathy Nystrom
has been teaching TMQ workshops since 2001. She is the Head of Cataloging at
Eden-Webster Library, a joint library of Eden Theological Seminary and Webster
University in St. Louis, MO. She has spent 17 years in comparable
positions at St. Louis Public Library and the Missouri Botanical Garden, where
her responsibilities included managing a cataloging department, cataloging
materials in all formats, and maintaining quality control through training,
authority control processes, and database maintenance. She is an SCCTP
trainer, and teaches "Principles of Cataloging & Classification"
and "AdvancedCataloging & Classification" for the University of
Missouri, School ofInformation Science & LearningTechnologies.
Bruce Rennie has
been teaching TMQ workshops since 2006. He is currently Catalog Librarian for
the Kansas City Library Consortium, a bi-state regional consortium including
public, academic, school, seminary, and special libraries. He is responsible
for bibliographic database maintenance, authority control, and catalog training
and support for KCLC member sites. He has over twenty years experience in
cataloging, plus substantial experience in public service. He’s conducted
various workshops and training sessions, designed both for technical and public
service staff. From 2002-2006 he served as a Reference and User Services
Association representative to the ALA Machine-Readable Bibliographic
Information Committee (MARBI).
Jane Costanza
has been teaching TMQ workshops since 2007. She is the Head of Cataloging at
Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Her responsibilities there
include managing the cataloging department, as well as original cataloging,
authority control, and database maintenance. She has substantial experience in
cataloging video and music materials. Jane also has experience cataloging for
digital initiatives. She manages her library’s digital collections, and is
responsible for cataloging images and electronic texts.
