The use of 010 (LCCN) and 020 (ISBN) in E-Book records

Check LCCNs and ISBNs carefully in records that contain a GMD (245 $h) of ‘electronic resource’.

These numbers may refer to the print version of the work and be invalid for the electronic version.

LCCN

If a record contains an LCCN (in 010 $a), and 533$a (Type of reproduction) contains 'Electronic reproduction', then it is unlikely that the 010$a is valid for this record. Check the LCCN in the LC database; if the LC record is for the print version of the resource:

·        change the 010$a to 010$z;

·        delete any DLC codes in the 040;

·        if 042='pcc' delete 042

If a record contains an LCCN in (010 $a), and there is no 533 (Reproduction note), but the record contains other indications that the item is an ebook, then the 010$a is probably not valid for this record. Check the LCCN in the LC database; if the LC record is for the print version of the resource:

·        change the 010$a to 010$z;

·        delete any DLC codes in the 040;

·        if 042='pcc' delete 042;

·        add an appropriate 533 (Reproduction note)

ISBN

If a record contains an ISBN (in 020 $a), not qualified by ‘E-book’, ‘electronic’, or a similar phrase and:

·        If an 533 (Reproduction note) is present and subfield $a (Type of reproduction) contains 'Electronic reproduction', then it is likely that the ISBN in question is for the print version and is therefore application invalid for the record for the electronic version. In this situation, if the 020$a does contain an ISBN for a print version:  change the 020$a to 020$z

·        If no 533 is present but a 776 (Additional Physical Form Entry) for a print version is present, then it is  possible that the ISBN in question is for the print version and is therefore application invalid for the record. When the 020$a contains an ISBN for a print version: change the 020$a to 020$z

·        If no 533 (Reproduction note) or 776 (Additional Physical Form Entry) is present  but the record contains other indications that the item is an ebook,  then it is  possible that the ISBN in question is for the print version and is therefore application invalid for the record. When the 020$a contains an ISBN for a print version: change the 020$a to 020$z
